Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
At the heart of ACT is changing the way that you think about the discomfort in your life. Attempting to avoid or ignore our uncomfortable thoughts and emotions often is not an effective method to feeling better. Life will always have ups and downs, but changing how you think and behave the pain life throws us can help you move towards a life full of things that you value.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
This skills based modality aims to get you acting differently. This modality is focused on teaching you skills that help you recognize and effectively cope with your emotions. You will learn to soothe those big, intense emotions. These skills include: emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, distress tolerance, and mindfulness.
Motivational Interviewing (MI)
Sometimes when you feel stuck, it might be because of the stage of change that you are in. This modality helps uncover your resistance and find your motivations for change so that you feel ready to make steps towards lasting change.
Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT)
Sometimes, you might be tired of looking back and you might just want to move forward. This modality focuses on highlighting your strengths and resources, while focusing on a building a solution.
Trauma Informed
Trauma often leaves us disconnected from ourselves in an effort to keep us safe. These patterns once served us, but continue even when we are in a safe environment.
As your mind and body are connected, trauma can also live in our bodies/nervous system. You can work to notice these old patterns and begin working with your mind and body to create new patterns.
Trauma often leaves room for post traumatic growth. After stabilization and processing, you can then work on growth and move forward towards thriving.
I generally use an eclectic mix of the above modalities. We can work together to find an evidence-informed pathway for you.
